and you know what I think but I'll say it here: I believe the elephant was trained to make those lines, that it isn't actually a 'self portrait' in any meaningful way. still, it's amazing that elephants paint, and one can't help but wonder what it thinks of the picture. does it recognize itself in the abstraction? I do believe that elephants have deep emotions and we know they have amazing memories. they're incredible creatures!
